Military Museum of Lisbon
The Military Museum of Lisbon has a vast and valuable museum heritage.
It began to be organized in 1842, in the "Royal Arsenal of the Army" by Baron de Monte Pedral, with the purpose of storing and conserving war material.
In the reign of D. Maria II, by Royal Decree of 10 December 1851, the building was renamed the Artillery Museum, a name that it would keep until 1926, the date on which it started to have its current designation.
At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, its first Director, General José Eduardo Castelbranco, to support the exhibition of the pieces, decorated new rooms with works by our best artists from the time of painting, sculpture and tiles.
